Annual observance recognizes the employees who help maintain essential infrastructure and services in the Salina community.

The City of Salina Public Works joins communities across the nation in recognizing May 17–23, 2026, as National Public Works Week. This annual observance highlights the dedicated professionals who build, maintain, and operate the infrastructure and essential services that help keep Salina safe, healthy, and moving forward.

In Salina, public works support many of the services residents and businesses rely on every day. These services include streets, traffic signals, storm drainage, water systems, utilities, sanitation, fleet maintenance, landfill, emergency response support, and infrastructure planning. Together, they help keep the city functioning, improving, and preparing for future needs.

Behind this work are dedicated employees, including equipment operators, mechanics, utility crews, maintenance workers, sanitation crews, technicians, laborers, drivers, and scale operators, among many others. They work year-round in all conditions, including extreme temperatures, storms, overnight hours, and emergency situations, to keep traffic moving, water flowing, and the community clean.

Although much of their work is done behind the scenes, public works professionals have a major impact on public safety, quality of life, and the continued growth and success of Salina. Their efforts reflect the department’s commitment to designing, building, and maintaining a clean, safe community that enhances quality of life and helps make Salina a vibrant place to live, work, and play.

Thank you to all public works employees for their dedication and for the essential role they play in serving the community each day.
