SALINA CHORAL FESTIVAL COMING SOON
The 2015 Salina Choral Festival, scheduled for next Tuesday, March 10, will feature area high school choirs, the Kansas Wesleyan University Chorale, and Kansas City jazz vocalist Angela Hagenbach.
Choral Festival participants will attend a day of rehearsals, a vocal workshop and a question-and-answer session led by Hagenbach. The day will culminate in a mass-choir concert at 7 p.m. open to the public, under the direction of KWU Professor and Salina Symphony Conductor Ken Hakoda.
Students from Sacred Heart High School, Salina Central High School and Salina South High School will be joined by choirs from Southeast of Saline and Ellsworth high schools as well as the Kansas Wesleyan University Chorale.
The Tuesday-evening concert at the Stiefel Theatre for the Performing Arts, 151 S. Santa Fe, will feature works by Hagenbach and her band, the Kansas Wesleyan Chorale and two contest selections by each high school choir. The concert concludes with two mass-choir works including “Home on the Range” as arranged by Eric Stein. Hagenbach will join the combined choirs to close with a performance of “Celebration.”
Cost for the 7 p.m. concert is $5 for general admission seating, payable only at the door. The 2015 Chorale Festival workshop and performance is co-sponsored by Kansas Wesleyan University and Salina Arts & Humanities, a department of the City of Salina.
