After several months of work, citizen meetings, and workshops, the City of Salina announces a public open house to present the results of this planning process - a plan for a new vision for Broadway Boulevard. The open house will take place on September 27, 2018 at the American Red Cross Central and Western Kansas Headquarters at 145 South Broadway Boulevard in Salina from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Information and drawings of the concept will be on display, and staff from the city's consulting team of RDG Planning & Design and BHC Rhodes will be on hand to discuss the plans with participants. The open house will include a short presentation by Marty Shukert of RDG, lead planner for the project, at 6:00 p.m.
The plan's study area includes Broadway Boulevard from Ash to Crawford Streets, as well as property adjacent to the street. A major focus is the street itself, as businesses and property owners along the street have long been concerned about access and circulation problems partially created by medians in Broadway. Other issues have included poor bicycle and pedestrian facilities, the street's visual image and appearance, speed concerns, and underused adjacent property. The plan, which included extensive public participation and two public design studios, is designed to respond to these issues and help create a revitalized Broadway Boulevard.
The City invites the attendance and participation of all interested citizens in this important and exciting event. For further information, please contact Dan Stack, City Engineer, at (785) 309-5725.
