In accordance with the traditions of the American Public Works Association, those who work in professions that provide and maintain public facilities and services will be honored this week, May 19-25, during National Public Works Week.
The theme for National Public Works Week, 2019, is "It Starts Here." According to the American Public Works Association, the theme "represents the many facets of modern civilization that grow out of the efforts put forth by the public works professionals across North America." Simply stating, the quality of life for the residents in every city starts with public works.
Jim Teutsch, Operations Manager for the Public Works Department, said, "Our objective in commemorating this week is to increase the public's awareness of the outstanding contributions made every day by all of the hardworking men and women of the City of Salina Public Works Department, and to express our renewed commitment to providing the best possible public infrastructure for our citizens. We are extraordinarily proud of the work being accomplished by our work groups and continually strive to deliver friendly, professional and cost effective results that help make Salina a better place to visit, work and live."
Salina's public works professionals include those who manage the city's engineering projects and services, fleet management, flood control, household hazardous waste, sanitation refuse and recycling collection, municipal solid waste landfill, street maintenance and repair, and traffic control.
