Civil War Medicine: Compassion During Conflict

Date: October 3, 2013, First Thursday
Time: 5:30-6:30 pm
Location:  Smoky Hill Museum, 211 W. Iron, Salina, KS 67401
Admission: Free

During the harsh, stark and often bloody reality of the Civil War, field hospitals and surgeons did their best to stop disease and mend broken and bullet-ridden bodies. However, their best efforts could only go so far, with the poor, unsanitary conditions and the archaic state of medicine. Join Dr. Michael Monaco as he discusses the medical practices of the Civil War and shares a display of medical equipment. Dr. Monaco is an avid Civil War reenactor, husband and father, physician, clinical professor at UMKC School of Medicine and an NFL team physician for the Kansas City Chiefs.

This free presentation will be offered at the Smoky Hill Museum on Thursday, October 3, from 5:30-6:30 pm.
