West Magnolia Road (east of Centennial Road) to Close for Railroad Crossing Upgrade

On Friday, April 25, 2014 Union Pacific Railroad will begin work on replacing the railroad crossing located on West Magnolia Road, east of Centennial Road. The work is expected to be completed by Monday, April 28, 2014.

Magnolia Road will be closed to through traffic from east of Centennial Road to Virginia Court, but access can be gained to all properties on either side of the tracks by way of the detour. Eastbound motorists will be directed south to Schilling Road at Centennial Road and westbound motorists will be directed south to Schilling Road at Ninth Street.

City Staff has worked with Union Pacific to minimize the disruption for businesses and the community. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to proceed with caution for the safety of the crews performing the work.

This work is part of a project funded entirely by Union Pacific. The railroad company plans to replace approximately 133,700 railroad ties, install more than 63,700 tons of rock ballast, and renew the surfaces at 174 road crossings between Salina and Oakley.

The Union Pacific work that was scheduled on West Ash Street (between College Avenue and Chicago Street) has been delayed until summer.
