City of Salina announces that Ninth Street between Hamilton Avenue and Antrim Avenue has reopened to traffic.
This section of Ninth Street has been closed since October 7 for construction of a curb extension and pedestrian crossing. The improvements are designed to enhance pedestrian safety in the corridor.
Installation of rectangular rapid flashing beacons (RRFBs) will take place once the equipment arrives. RRFBs are flashing lights mounted next to pedestrian crossing signs. When activated by a pedestrian, the lights flash brightly to alert drivers that someone is in or about to enter the crosswalk. This work will not require closing 9th Street, and traffic will be maintained during installation.
Motorists are reminded to yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk and use extra caution as drivers and pedestrians adjust to the new traffic patterns.
This project is part of the City of Salina’s $5.9 million 2025 maintenance capital improvement program.
