The ever-growing public art collection is susceptible to harsh weather conditions, which can degrade even the most robust materials over time. The Community Art & Design (CAD) Committee, a mayor appointed advisory board, is committed to the stewardship of the city’s public art collection. Committee members have supported the care and maintenance endeavors by submitting evaluations of public artworks to guide the city departments who manage the collection. The City of Salina is committed to public safety and to maintaining our public art to the highest standards.
After many years, the mounting system for the bronze sculpture “Poco a Poco Se Va Lejos" by Pokey Park, located at Jerry Ivey Park, has become unstable and requires repair. With the changing landscape, removal of the pond, and other pending upgrades, it is important to take these changes into consideration while repairs to the sculpture are completed. City staff and CAD will work together to determine an ideal location for the reinstallation, but the timeline for completion is unknown. Arts & Humanities Staff will work closely with the Parks Department to complete the repairs and installation in a timely manner.
