Wednesday, February 19
Last night, crews completed their 2nd pass through residentials, worked on high-capacity roadways again, and city parking lots.
Today, we have 2 loaders downtown cleaning up turn lanes. Our 2 motor grader operators and 2 trucks are cleaning remaining slush on roadways. The rest of the crews are removing salt spreaders from dump trucks in preparation to load and remove remaining snow piles from turn lanes and roadways.
Tuesday, February 18
5:15pm: The day crew is working on the second pass through residential areas, widening roads as possible. Tonight, crews will return to arterial streets (Ohio, Crawford, Broadway, Etc.)
8:15am: Plows are starting to get back out on the roads.
7:50am: Crews are repairing one of the plows.

7:30am: Crews have been plowing/salting arterials and collectors since approximately 1 am, making 2 complete passes. Drivers are currently arriving back to refuel and inspect/repair trucks and plows to ensure equipment is ready for day crew to begin at 8 am, after their shift exchange meeting. Day crew will begin working on residentials as the next round of snowfall arrives, then return to arterials as needed. Crews replaced 5 poly blades on plows throughout the night. (They work on their own equipment as needed!)
1:11am: Getting ready to go out.

12:15am: Crews have been called in to start plowing operations. It will take about an hour for them to safely report and prepare trucks to begin on arterial and collector roadways.
Monday, February 17
7:30pm: Crews are pretreating roads in Salina with salt (with magnesium chloride sprayed on it). There are 13 out of 14 trucks with plows and salt in preparation for tonight’s weather. We will begin plow operations when snow arrives. Once snow plowing operations begin, we will be running 24-hour operations (2-12 hour shifts 8-8, with a shift change meeting at 8 am).
Wednesday, February 12
2:15pm: We are currently working on a second pass through residentials and trying to push areas back where we can.
- Arterials & Collectors – (x2) has been plowed twice today and staff will continue to try to push areas back where they can tonight.
- Staff will also be spending time repairing multiple plow blades and other areas of concerns throughout the night.
- Tomorrow staff plans to continue to address areas of concern.
Current Equipment Conditions:
- Trucks operational = 13 of 14
- Wheel Loaders = 1 of 2
- Motorgraders = 2 of 2
- (Day Shift) Staff = 16 of 18
1:23pm: Here is a short video on snow plow operations.
10:15am: Changed rubber on one plow blade, which took about an hour. The truck is now back in service.

8:00am: Shift change. Fourteen trucks are about to resume operations on residential streets.

6:51am: Crews have been plowing/salting arterials and collectors since approximately 1 am, making 2 complete passes. Drivers are currently arriving back to refuel and inspect/repair critical components of the trucks, plows, and blades to ensure equipment is ready for day crew to begin at 8 am. Day crew will begin working on residentials, unless the arterials (priority for volume and emergency vehicle traffic) need attention again.
12:10am - Crews have been called in to start operations. Getting everyone in and getting everything up and running will take 1-2 hours.
Tuesday, February 11
There are 14 out of 14 trucks with plows and loaded with salt in preparation for tonight’s weather. Staff is currently on standby. We will begin plow operations shortly after snow arrives. Once snow plowing operations begin, we will be running 24-hour operations (2-12 hour shifts 8-8, shift change at 8).
Monday, February 10
1:45pm - Crews are pretreating roads in Salina with salt (with magnesium chloride sprayed on it), beginning with arterial streets (Ohio, Ninth, Santa Fe, Crawford, etc.)
11am - Crews are preparing to pretreat streets this afternoon.
